There is so much usefull information on here, and so many people with a wealth of knowledge! Basically my problem is that i have designed a concrete plinth to support a filter system designed considering Fx, Fy and Fz but this plinth needs to be on cast onto existing concrete.
Im planning on using dowel bars drilled and epoxey fixed into the existing concrete. I assume shear is going to be the main component acting at the interface between the old concrete and the new, but dont know how to calculate the minimum embeded length, diameter, or spacing of the dowel bars? Many thanks in advance. Its UK eurocode based primarily but the dowel design is 'basic' calculation of lengths etc and will be the same analysis wherever you are.
The embedment length is only effective over a certain length without further detailed checks. Dowels will only transfer load within a certain distance form the load applied so dont simply space them out equally over a vast area to cater for a localised load transfer.

Do you have a link to it? For the dowel bar spacing beneath the plinth with axial loading im assuming there is a zone of influence beneath the plinth in which the dowel bars will be placed, any bars outside of this area will not provid any additional load transfer?
Resist shear to keep the plinth in place? Some Forticrete dressings will incorporate mm dovetail slots to restrain lateral movement in vertical units i. All Forticrete copings are supplied with a suitable fixing. Other positional fixings may be provided in items such as window surrounds. We would advise not to cut Cast Stone items over mm long as they will have one or more steel bars inserted for handling purposes.

A sliding gate rolls on a metal track that must have a solid foundation across the driveway and to one side where the gate is to open.
A slope across a driveway is OK so long as the entire length of the track is on the same slope, is reasonably straight, not too steep or the gate isn't too heavy. If you don't have a concrete driveway then you'll need to install a concrete footing across the driveway that should be at least mm 12" wide x mm 6" deep with mm 8" wide trench mesh set in the middle. Trench mesh is a lot more effective than a single larger bar of reinforcing steel. If you have a bitumen driveway you will need to remove a strip of bitumen and replace it with concrete.Ka7500b inverter
This concrete can be coloured black to blend in better with the bitumen. If you have a gravel driveway you will need to excavate and install a concrete footing. The footing should have the centre raised up a little higher with gravel driveways to prevent gravel from building up against the track. If a ground drops down from the edge of the driveway where the gate is to slide then the track may be elevated with a metal rail rather than using a big lump of concrete.
This rail should be in line with the driveway so if the driveway slopes up a bit so should the rail.
The rail should have support posts every 1m or so. If the ground slopes up from the edge of the driveway where you want your gate to slide then an area will need to be excavated to allow space for the gate track.
This area must be retained with walls that rise above the ground to prevent material blowing in and obstructing the gate track. The gate track should be well drained and not have large volumes of water running up against it as this can wash silt and dirt up into the wheel bearings that may eventually cease up.Peavey t 40 wiring diagram
The pad for the gate motor operator must be well above any ground water as this can cause problems for the motor. If the gate is very wide it may be more economic to use a two piece telescopic sliding gate that requires only half the space to open, which can reduce the amount of excavation and retaining be quite a lot.
The concrete footing off to one side of the driveway should be mm 9" wide and mm 4" deep although this depends on where it is going. If hard up against a front wall then it maybe narrower so long as the edge of concrete is at least 75mm 3" away from the edge of the track so the concrete doesn't break away when holes are drilled for fitting the track. If you want to automate your sliding gate you'll require a pad for a gate motor, which is normally mm 16" square x mm 4" deep and goes hard up against the edge of the driveway although this may vary in size and position if you have a guide post or your driveway is angled.
If the cladding is thicker than this then the extra amount would need to be added between the fence and the gate. If the motor is a different size then the dimensions for the motor pad need to be adjusted accordingly too eg. To get the exact length see Space Required for Sliding Gates. If the motor power is to be hardwired then the power cable is ideally placed in the middle of where the motor is to be placed or if an outdoor power point is preferred this can be fitted to the guide post or other small post next to the motor if there is no guide post.
If there is a guide post hard up against the driveway then the motor pad needs to be moved over to allow room for the post by whatever the width the post is. Guide posts are normally 75mm 3" or mm 4" square. If the guide post is to be fitted after the concrete pad is installed then it will need a base plate so it can be bolted to a level surface so add mm 4" or more to the width of the level motor pad to allow room for it.
You will also need a longer footing see Space required for sliding gates.
The pad for the motor should be level, even if the rest of the footing isn't, the level area for the motor pad should be mm 16" x mm 9" leaving a mm 7" wide section still sloping for the track. I've got the Concrete Society's Technical Report 34, which gives design examples for 'Concrete Industrial Ground Floors', but I'm hoping there is some thing out there which is more specific to plinths. What you refer to as a plinth is more likely known as a foundation slab or raft foundation. I know of no UK publication for these elements. Just size for the allowable bearing capacity and work out the moments etc for the rebar design. Ensure you place the base at a depth which will frost heave resistant.
